Cata Tourism

Museum

Cata is home to the only community-based rural museum in the country that describes the community’s experience of land dispossession and restitution. Situated adjacent to the community hall, the museum is a must-see for visitors to the area. Professionally designed, colourful boards tell the Cata story as well as its links to the Vulamasango Singene Campaign. One of the main attractions of the museum is an accurate-to-every-last-detail model of a pre-betterment Cata homestead.

Hiking Trail

A heritage trail is being established, as an outdoor extension of the community museum. The trail will cross the pedestrian bridge, up to the Mqalo and Tete homesteads in Nyokane section. Highlights will include information boards and a community memorial (toposcope). Construction and other processes will commence in May 2007. Local labour will be recruited in this regard. The trail will be opened to the public later this year.

Chalets

Considerable progress has been made towards the construction of accommodation for tourists to Cata. It is anticipated that construction will be completed by the end of 2007.
