The MEC for Agriculture in the Provincial Legislature, GE Nkwinti visited the Cata Irrigation Scheme on 19 June. Enormously impressed with the work that he saw there, the MEC indicated that his department would be able to make a tractor available to the project. On 4 July, BRC contacted Christina Erasmus of the Department of Agriculture who said that she had had a meeting with the extension officers in Keiskammahoek. They will assist the co-ordinator of the Cata Irrigation Scheme to write the required motivational letter. It seems that the MEC’s promise has been communicated to the right people and the wheels are in motion! Watch this space…

Cata Communal Property Association (CPA) held it’s third AGM on 27 June 2007. Both old people (men and women) and youth braved cold, snowy weather to attend the AGM. It was characterized by a very cheerful vibe, and the growth of CPA committee since the first AGM in February 2005, was noticeable. The CPA committee adhered to all legal procedures prescribed in its constitution.

Cata was a hive of activity on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 June when bus-loads of BRC members arrived from all over the province for the organisation’s Annual General Meeting. Instead of having its AGM at a beachfront hotel in East London, as it has done in the past, BRC asked the people of Cata to host the event.
